Stoneware Information

Functional Stoneware is available in Skeena Blue and Northern Lights glazes that we have formulated. The website does not display all of the pottery that is available at our Kispiox Valley Studio and gallery. The glazes are lead-free and safe to use in the oven and dishwasher. The Skeena Blue and Northern Lights glazes use local clays from the Kispiox and Skeena rivers as a main ingredient of their formula and add unique characteristics to the glazes.

Taking care of your stoneware pottery

Our glazes are very hard and durable. A sharp knife drawn across the glaze will not scratch it, in fact some remnant of the metal is more apt to come off onto the stoneware piece. Although we do our best to smooth out the bottoms of our pottery, the clay body is harder than the glaze and can scratch the glaze. It is recommended to store plates on edge, rather than on top of one another. With bowls stacked together it's good idea to put a napkin in between them. Our stoneware can be used in the oven. If food gets baked on or mugs get coffee or tea stains, don't be afraid to use an sos pad to clean it....it won't scratch the glaze.
